Christmas Wrappings

Getting into the holiday spirit, I started my painting with a cat reference photo and the background was very similar in color to the cat. I liked this idea but wanted to do more with it. This basket full of wrapping papers and some Christmas ornaments was just the subtle theme I was looking for to incorporate with this cute tawny cat. I really like how the floral background adds lots of pattern as do the wrapping papers and the basket, not to mention the striping on the cat! This patterning makes the painting very active, and at the same time helps your eye to rest on the cat and the quiet soft yellow wrapping paper.
