Aspens- Barks and Grass

Aspens- Bark and Grass
22 x 7, oil

Felt great to be back painting with my painting knives again today. The knives give a lot of texture and also allow for a more interpretive painting. I loved how the grasses and small shrubs in this scene produced a color pattern all their own and the aspen trunks formed vertical ribs touching the sky. Inside the Grove, Day 20 of the Painting Challenge

 Inside the Grove
6x6, Oil
$50.00

Walking into an aspen grove is a marvelous experience. There is such a sense of peace and well being. Perhaps it is the uniformity of the trees or the connectedness they have to each other. But it is lovely just to stand amongst them. The value study for this painting is below. You can purchase this painting on my website.  SpohnStudio.com

Falling

Falling
7 x 7 inches
oil on wood panel

Even though it is VERY hot outside and fall seems a long ways off, I my painting today was inspired from photos taken last fall of leaves falling. Being blown by the wind, they dance in the air before gently touching the ground. I used my pallet knife for most of this painting.  Contact me to purchase this painting. $85.00

Aspen Glen Visitors, Deer

Aspen Glen Visitors
19 x 13
oil on board

This painting took two days to paint because my painting schedule was interrupted. I liked the unusual bending and crooked shape of several aspen trees in my reference photo. Since I had to photograph this painting right after I finished painting, the whites are brighter here, and the colors are not as vivid as they are in the actual painting. This painting was accidentally painted on one of my scrap hardboard boards, it is a bit of a trapezoid (not square or rectangle) but with clever framing will look like a rectangle. because of this, it has been discounted to sell for $50.00. Aspen Field

Aspen Field
7 x 7
Oil on Board
Today's painting was inspired by a snapshot I took this fall of some aspen trunks in a field. The light hitting the trees was strong on their trunks and the faded grasses looked soft and airy so the aspens seemed to be supported by air alone. This painting is for sale for $85.00 and includes free shipping in the Continental USA. Contact me by e-mail for more information: susanmspohn@gmail.com

Aspen Study

Today's painting is a study for a possible larger piece. It is an oil painting on watercolor paper measuring 15 inches long by 4  inches wide. This painting is mounted on board and then floated on another board, painted black with a natural wood decorative bevel. I have just titled it "Aspen Study". Sometimes, you look at a photograph and think it is pretty good as a reference photo, but when you paint you often have to make adjustments. This painting follows the photograph with all the basic shapes. I will probably group the aspens a little more if I eventually do a larger painting. You can purchase this piece for $275.00 You can pay using the BUY NOW button below. Contact me using my e-mail address for questions and to give me your shipping address. susanmspohn@gmail.com

This piece has been cropped and mounted on board, then floated on a 1/2 inch board that is painted black with a natural wood bevel. Contact me for shipping & purchasing.

Lake O'Haver Aspens, Landscape

Today's painting was taken from a photograph I took at Lake O'Haver while I was hiking about a month ago. It was great to see the fall aspen colors. This scene caught my attention because of the deep shadows in the background. Since I have a thick stack of these photos... I will probably be painting some more of them later this winter. This piece measures 17 x 17 inches it is an oil painting on watercolor paper. Price: $185.00  Shipping is included in the continental USA. Please contact me regarding your shipping address, etc. You can pay for the painting using my PayPal account below. Thanks!
