Down the Rabbit Hole

Down the Rabbit Hole

Original Oil Painting

18 x 30 inches

I started this painting a while back and had to put it aside when I started the painting challenge in January.  It is a fun piece with a lot going on... it is almost Easter now so maybe waiting to finish this painting in April was the right thing to do.

This painting will be for sale at the Valley Visions Art show coming up May 2nd at the Steamplant Annex. More information on this show will be posted later. Check out my website to view more of my paintings. SpohnStudio.com

WHAT
Twitter Art Exhibit: Orlando

Benefiting The Center for Contemporary Dance, Special Needs Classes
Twitter Art Exhibit: Orlando is the fourth installment of an open international exhibition of handmade postcard art for charity, donated by hundreds of participating artists from around the globe.
While the first two exhibitions were held in Moss, Norway, the third installment held in Los Angeles marked the global launch for the concept by founder David Sandum, a Swedish-born artist who conceived Twitter Art Exhibit as a vehicle for doing good through social media and online community-building. The idea is simple: artists around the globe receive a call through Twitter social media to create original postcard-sized art, which they mail to a local curator, who then exhibits and sells them to benefit a local charity. Artists must have a Twitter account and interact with exhibition organizers to participate, and help seed the event.
In its first year, Twitter Art Exhibit received postcards from over 260 artists in 24 countries, raising funds to buy 221 new children’s books for a struggling library in Moss, Norway. The second installment received entries by 360 artists in 32 countries, raising $4,000 USD for an abused women’s shelter, also in Moss. The 3^rd exhibition held in Los Angeles raised $7,000 for an organization mentoring underprivileged young adults in preparation for careers in the visual arts, attracting 502 artists from 35 countries, with a total of 726 postcard entries received.
Social media plays a major role in Twitter Art Exhibit. It is our intention to tweet, share, seed and promote our artists to thank them for their participation, and to make this event a huge success.
The event will be highly publicized and well attended by art buyers and enthusiasts, members of the press, local artists and the community, as well as by The Center for Contemporary Dance Students and Faculty.

Senorita Iris

5x7 greeting card

I have been watching my irises greening up a bit. It is still winter, but no one told them. I was paging through some seed catalogs and found this lovely variety. Definitely something to plant in the garden this year. This original greeting card is for sale for $15.00 and will be available for purchase on my website.  SpohnStudio.com

Card- Red Tulips

Card Red Tulips

5x7 inches original acrylic
$15,00

I am painting away with these acrylics to do a series of these greeting cards. Working in acrylics is soooooooooo much faster than painting in oils. Everything dries right away and you can easily make corrections and additions. Of course, the colors dry darker and so it is more difficult to to get the contrasts and tones correct. It is all a learning process. But so far I like working with both oils and acrylics. Visit my website to purchase.  SpohnStudio.com

Sping Blossoms with Goldfinch

Spring Blossoms with Goldfinch

7 x 16 inches

oil on wood panel

It is Fall and I am painting Spring time paintings, go figure.... Anyway, this is a softly colored reminder of springtime. My guess is that we will need this breath of spring in a couple months when winter has piled snow and ice upon the lands. This painting is for sale for $140.00, contact me to purchase.

Floral Bouquet with Bunny

Floral Bouquet with Bunny

12 x 20

oil on wood panel

I started this painting yesterday and finished it today.  I love the bright and cheery floral bouquet. I used my pallet knife for all of it, and with thoughts of Spring and Easter in the air, I added the little bunny to nibble at some of the flowers. I used to have a pet dwarf bunny years ago. They make wonderful pets. Mine was a house bunny and he was litter boxed trained also. To purchase this painting, please contact me by e-mail.  Copyright 2012, by the artist, Susan M. Spohn

Floral Patterns with Lizard

Floral Patterns with Lizard

30 x 30

oil on board

This painting has truly been evolving over the last week and a half, as it went from one kind of experimental piece morphing into another. My intent was to have a piece with more contemporary elements and I started off by first painting my board in geometric patterns of varying hues of colored paint. I really liked the effect, but somehow it didn't go with my bouquet of flowers..... The tree branches and birds were always on the scene too along with our noisy lizard. Somehow the painting all pulled together today. It is an unusual painting for me, but a happy piece none-the-less, with lots of texture and happy blossoms .... This painting is for sale for $850.00, contact me for shipping details. Copyright 2012, by the artist, Susan M. Spohn

MRS. CROW'S SPRING VISION

30 x 30

Oil on Board

I have been working on this painting for a couple days. This story painting came about while browsing thru some reference photos. I had a photo of this crow that I wanted to put into a painting, but I was also longing for springtime since it has been unusually cold for December in these parts, and I was looking at all these wonderful springtime flowers. My imagination took over and  Mrs. Crow became my wistful self enjoying a beautiful spring garden. This painting was created using just brushes (unusual for me...)  I will have to do my next painting with the pallet knives. 'Mrs. Crow's Spring Vision' is painted on 1/4 inch board that is attached to a wood box frame (looking similar to a gallery wrapped canvas) and is for sale for $875.00. Contact me regarding shipping charges. Copyright 2012, by the artist, Susan M. Spohn
