INTERCONNECTEDNESS
Definition of INTERCONNECTED--
1: mutually joined or related
2: having internal connections between the parts or elements
— in·ter·con·nec·ted·ness noun
Susan Spohn is a
local Salida artist. She paints in oils using bristle brushes and
painting knives. She is currently exploring the relationship “of
interconnected brush and knife strokes, each one perfect in its own
right coming together in a painting to form a cohesive identity, thought
or idea. Each stroke becomes more by uniting with the others.”
Most of her garden,
floral and fall paintings have layers of paint, rich in texture that is
formed as she paints with her knives. Each stroke creates its own layer
forming each flower, animal or tree within the space of the painted
panel. These textural strokes of color create movement, depth, and
design weaving together a scene and a story.
She invites you to
view these paintings and see the interconnectedness within. “It reminds
me that we might all be considered individual paint strokes, coming
together to form a unique pattern, adding our color, movement and
texture to the whole of the planet.”
The reception,
with bar and light Hors d'oeuvres, will be held at the SteamPlant’s
Paquette Gallery on Saturday, October 10th from 5 PM – 7 PM. All are invited.

I purchased a wall hanging called "The Ancient One" several years ago at the Uptown Art Fair in Minneapolis, MN. I think Susan Spohn was the artist. Are you that Susan Spohn? It is one of my favorite art works. I was looking for another hanging of that type and came across your web site. I love your paintings. I also think I saw you at the Tubac Art Show in Tubac, AZ. Do you ever come to AZ now? We now live in Tucson and I would love to see your work live and in person. Kathy Page
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy,
DeleteI have done the Uptown Art Fair in Minneapolis! And I have done quite a few shows in AZ too. Thank you for remembering my name. My art has changed since I last did that Uptown Art Fair. I used to do paintings/fabric wall sculptures that were based on ancient petrographic symbols.
Right now, I mainly do shows in Colorado, but do plan on a few AZ shows for this next upcoming winter. You may want to sign up for my email newsletter, I always list my upcoming shows and you get to see some of my newest paintings. You can sign up on my website: http://spohnstudio.com/ under Studio Newsletter. At any rate, keep in touch, and thanks for leaving a comment.
