Only had time for a small oil painting today. I was out viewing the beautiful aspens for half the day. I have had some requests for more sheep paintings... so here is the first one. Contact me to purchase.
Here we have another fine rooster walking outside the chicken coop. Lovely white, black and some light cream feathers shine in the sunlight. This painting is for sale and can be purchased on my website. SpohnStudio.com
This rooster is surveying his domain after a blowing snow storm the night before. He walks a bit gingerly on the crunchy, cold grasses and snow. This painting is for sale for $50.00, contact me to purchase or visit my website on Saturday. SpohnStudio.com
White hens are more numerous than the many ornate colored varieties. Their feathers often reflect colors in their environment. You can purchase this painting from my website soon. SpohnStudio.com
I painted this pig today. The value study is posted below. I Wallas felt there was so much personality in this pig. I thank Sharyn for sending his photo to me. To view more of my paintings or to purchase this pig, visit my website. SpohnStudio.com
An artist friend sent me a photo of 2 of their pigs. It was adorable as both of them were sitting. I found that I could not decently fit them both into my painting and so decided to just paint one of them. This is the value study for this handsome pig.
I guess the Christmas holidays have me thinking pastoral thoughts. Couldn't resist painting a small flock of sheep. They look as though they should be crowding around a manger.... Merry Christmas to all and blessings of a joyful 2013.
There is something so peaceful and about viewing sheep on a hillside. Here is one up close, full of wool and personality. Visit my website to purchase.

I just love little chicks! Who can resist them? So soft and roundish, peeping and running about, they are just amazing. Today's little yellow chick was caught posing by itself away from its brother's and sisters. Perhaps tomorrow I will try a for a group of chicks....... Here is another experiment with oil on paper and board in a more realistic manner. Again you can see all the under lying texture created by using the paper. And you can see where pieces of the paper show through the oil paint. I am on the fence as to whether or not this really works with this painting. But it turned out to be a cute scene with all the chickens and the sheep. The reference photo of the sheep was the main inspiration for this painting, the chickens were just support players. This painting is for sale for $150.00. Copyright 2012, by the artist, Susan M. Spohn
Today's painting was a quick experiment using a new technique of painting with oils on sections of paper adhered to board. I like the abstract and modern quality this technique gives my art, but found it more difficult when painting a piece this small. This process does add more texture, and unexpected design with color as bits of the paper show through and I will continue to explore this painting method. This painting is for sale for $55.00 and includes free shipping in the Continental USA.
