Pet Portrait

New Pet Portrait
6x6, Oil

Just finished this new pet portrait. Since it is a small size I had to work with small brushes. Seems more stressful to me... but probably because I like my larger brushes better. I think the colors and pose of the dog turned out well.  View more of my paintings on my website- SpohnStudio.com

Pet portrait revised- made a few changes. Lighting maybe a bit light on this photo, but you can see some of the changes I made to the dog and some value changes.

OK, below is the final version of this pet portrait.

Actually the colors are brighter in person.

Wild Thing

Wild Thing

My latest pet portrait, was an airplane. A major change for me as a theme for a painting. But I look upon this request as I do with all pet portraits and tried to connect with my subject. For more information on my pet portraits. Visit my website: SpohnStudio.com

Cat Portrait

Here is my latest cat pet portrait. I choose this image to paint because it is a bit different. The pose was unlike any others I had painted. I think it shows a bit of the cat's personality also. Jean Claude

Jean Claude
Pet Portrait
8x8, original oil

I was intrigued to paint this pet portrait using this neat perspective. The colorful rug in the background really brings his grey coat alive. Fiona, a second look

Fiona, A Second Look
8x8, original oil

Another version of Fiona, this time she is more simplified and painted mainly using my knives. How to decide? Texture or no? I like this simplified version. She appears timeless, and her eyes look up at the viewer, watching to see what is going on.  For more information on pet portraits, please visit my website: SpohnStudio.com

Cat Perch

Cat Perch
6x6 inches, original oil
Day 11 of the painting challenge! Today, I was drawn to painting cats again. I saw the cutest ad in the local newspaper for our local human society. They were advertising a sale on cats, just like a used car ad. I just laughed and thought it was so clever. So with cats on my mind, I looked through my reference photos and spied this lovely creature. This painting is for sale for $50.00, visit my website to purchase. SpohnStudio.com

In Memory of Suzy

In Memory of Suzy
6x6 inches, original oil

Day 6 of the painting challenge. I have been wanting to paint this memorial pet portrait for a while now... and today seemed like a perfect day. I used to go for walks with Suzy and her owner. She was a swell dog. This painting is not for sale.

A Cat Named Willow

A Cat Named Willow
6x6 inches, original oil

Day 5 of the painting challenge. I chose to paint this cat today because of the floral print on chair she was sitting on. She has so much fur and texture and then there was the floral design behind her to keep your eye moving. I painted Willow  mainly with painting knives which gave her fur all that texture. This painting is for sale for $50.00. Visit my website to purchase. SpohnStudio.com

My Spot

My Spot
12 x 24 inches, oil on panel

I stated this painting a couple weeks ago, but had to put it aside to finish some other paintings. The cat is painted with painting knives and originally, I thought I might complete the entire painting using knives. But today is another day and most of the remainder of this painting was painted with brushes. The photo doesn't really show all the heavy texture on the fur of the cat, but in person it really shows up. Contact me to purchase. View more of my paintings on my website: SpohnStudio.com

Booth Photos, Estes Park

 Potential customers viewing a painting.

Bright sun hit my booth in the morning.

My booth as the sun swung around more to the south.

Weather  for my Estes Park Fine Art Festival was cool at night and hot during the day. It was a fun festival to do as I knew a lot of other artists at the show. I did have a corner booth... but could not use the South side because of the intense sun.

I was busy answering questions about pet portraits and handing out pet portrait postcards. Now is the time to order your pet portrait. Christmas will be here soon.  For more information visit my website: susanmspohn.com    Visit the page on animals.
