Hearing the wind blow and the tumble weeds piling up against the fence, I am reminded of all the flowers in my gardens. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the growing season lasted a lot longer? This was a local flower box spilling with flowers. Visit my website to view more paintings. SpohnStudio.com

Christmas Wrappings

11.5 x 14

oil on watercolor paper

Getting into the holiday spirit, I started my painting with a cat reference photo and the background was very similar in color to the cat. I liked this idea but wanted to do more with it. This basket full of wrapping papers and some Christmas ornaments was just the subtle theme I was looking for to incorporate with this cute tawny cat. I really like how the floral background adds lots of pattern as do the wrapping papers and the basket, not to mention the striping on the cat! This patterning makes the painting very active, and at the same time helps your eye to rest on the cat and the quiet soft yellow wrapping paper.

This painting is for sale for $175.00, contact me by e-mail for more details and shipping information. Copyright 2012, by the artist, Susan M. Spohn

Fall Poppies

5 x 7

Oil on Board

Looking for more floral subjects, I walked about town this morning hunting for a few remaining blooms.... Frosty nights have turned most flowers crispy and brown or wilted by the cold. But I did find these bright red poppies, their flower petals still waving in the wind, although their coloring was a bit darker. This painting is for sale for $55.00 and includes free shipping in the Continental USA. Click the PayPal icon below to purchase, or contact me by e-mail to arrange for other payment options.
