Aspens- With Friends

Apens- With Friends

22 x 7, Oil

Aspens often blend in with the color of the grasses and bushes. Everything seems to be a yellowish gold set off by the sparkling blue Colorado skies. To view more of my aspen series, visit my website: SpohnStudio.com

Original Oil Painting

Now you will be able to find those previous 'hints'. I think this painting is now finished. I will look at it again with fresh eyes in the morning. Sunflowers self-seed themselves in my front garden and when all the flowers are in bloom, it is really a happy site. There are always birds, butterflies, squirrels and cats in this garden.  Do you have any comments?

Inside the Grove, Day 20 of the Painting Challenge

 Inside the Grove

6x6, Oil

$50.00

Walking into an aspen grove is a marvelous experience. There is such a sense of peace and well being. Perhaps it is the uniformity of the trees or the connectedness they have to each other. But it is lovely just to stand amongst them. The value study for this painting is below. You can purchase this painting on my website.  SpohnStudio.com

Frantz Lake Autumn, Day 19 of the Painting Challenge

Frantz Lake Autumn

6x6, Oil

$50.00

This fall landscape was started yesterday, but ran out of painting time. There is a nice contrast between the thick pallet knife strokes on the land and the calm of the brush strokes on the water.  You can purchase this painting from my website. SpohnStudio.com

Five Tigers in the Aspens, (start) Day 13 of the Painting Challenge

It must be the full moon today. Because despite having the entire day to run errands, do laundry, organize things on my computer and paint... I did not finish a painting today... Instead I did work on this new painting and work a bit on another pet portrait. I hope to finish one of them tomorrow. Stay tuned...

So happy to be home again after a long, long weekend. Heat, humidity and rain, oh my! The Manitou Springs Labor Day Show had to be moved to a new park. It was a challenge, but I did sell some lovely paintings. Here are a few below--

This will be the last painting I will paint for my upcoming show at the Paquette Gallery in the Salida Steamplant, which will open on Saturday, March 24th. I wanted to have quite a few smaller paintings available so everyone would be able to take home a keepsake. If you live nearby, come and see the showing, the show is open until April 31st. Booth Photo at the Las Cruses Art Show

This is a booth photo of my art at the New Mexico Las Cruces Art Show last weekend. The paintings are larger than they look, because I have 8 foot tall show panels. The front floral diptych is 5 ft in length. My next art show will be in June in downtown Denver, CO

A local TV station did some interviews and shot some footage of the show. My booth is at the end of the clip, this was when I was still getting my booth set up for the day, so I wasn't paying attention to the person shooting this film.

Aspen Glen Visitors, Deer

Aspen Glen Visitors

19 x 13

oil on board

This painting took two days to paint because my painting schedule was interrupted. I liked the unusual bending and crooked shape of several aspen trees in my reference photo. Since I had to photograph this painting right after I finished painting, the whites are brighter here, and the colors are not as vivid as they are in the actual painting. This painting was accidentally painted on one of my scrap hardboard boards, it is a bit of a trapezoid (not square or rectangle) but with clever framing will look like a rectangle. because of this, it has been discounted to sell for $50.00. Aspen Field

Aspen Field

7 x 7

Oil on Board

Today's painting was inspired by a snapshot I took this fall of some aspen trunks in a field. The light hitting the trees was strong on their trunks and the faded grasses looked soft and airy so the aspens seemed to be supported by air alone. This painting is for sale for $85.00 and includes free shipping in the Continental USA. Contact me by e-mail for more information: susanmspohn@gmail.com

Fall Hillside

Fall Hillside

30 x 30

Oil on Board

This painting is a scene from alongside our Arkansas riverbank this past fall. I painted this piece (except for the sky) using several pallet knives. The paint is laid on the board in thick strokes, giving a highly textural feeling to the painting. As always, feel free to post your comments regarding this painting. This painting is for sale for $995.00 and includes free shipping in the Continental USA.  Please send me an e-mail for shipping and purchasing information: susanmspohn@gmail.com

Diptych--Fall 2010, Salida Landscape

Diptych--Fall 2010

15 x 30

Oil on 2 Boards

We had a fabulous fall in 2010. I took quite a few walks thru various parks and open spaces; each time bringing my camera along to snap photos..... Since the photos were all wonderful, it is often difficult to choose what to paint. I chose this scene because of the leaning tree in the forefront.  It divides the diptych, and yet it also joins the scene together. The composition has both a peacefulness and a tension, similar to the feeling of fall, although strikingly beautiful, you know winter is on its way.

I used both brushes and pallet knives while painting this landscape. When you view the painting in person, you will see the heavy application of oil paint with the pallet knife. This painting is for sale for $500.00 and includes free shipping in the continental USA. E-mail me for more details:  susanmspohn@gmail.com

Lily Garden

Jacob's Ladder Garden

Jacob's Ladder Garden

18 x 30

Oil on Board

This wonderful painting was inspired by a photo of Jacob's Ladder,a perennial that is planted in a lot of gardens in these parts. If properly cared for, the flower heads are large and lush and last a long time. I like the bright pinky-red heads of the Jacob's Ladder along with the contrast of the yellow grasses with the blue saliva's in the background. If you would like to adorn your walls with this wonderful garden, please contact me by e-mail, and leave your shipping information. This painting sells for $450.00 and includes shipping in the continental USA. E-mail-- susanmspohn@gmail.com
